What a wonderful weekend it has been! My daughter, Emma's 21st Birthday; my son, Sam back from university for the occasion, great family company, lovely food, and then a wonderful act of worship this morning at SJR.
I guess that I shouldn't really be seen to be describing an act of worship that I was preaching at as "wonderful"; I mean, it's not exactly very humble is it? And it's not good to show a lack of humility, is it?
Even so, it was a wonderful occasion for me. I felt truly blessed to be there. It was one of those occasions when I had a strong sense that God was there with us; I felt the very real support and prayers of my church family around me; and blessed again by a number of our congregation who took time to share with me a little of what has been going on in their lives.
There is something special about preaching at your home church; with people you have shared your faith with for the past 26 years. People whose lives you know something about; people who have seen you grow in Christ and who you have seen grow too.
What a privilege it is to preach!
